An injured dog, no matter how gentle, has a tendency to bite when hurt or injured.  Your injured gentle dog might bite even if you are trying to help them. They may not be able to understand your intentions.  Your dog might think that what you are doing is what’s causing pain or more pain. Instinctively they will bite to protect themselves from more pain.

An emergency muzzle is very important and one must know how this is properly done.I recommend using a shoelace, a nice strong cloth or a bandage. Their leash is most convenient; just as long as you can get one fast. If the dog you are trying to help is not your dog, be very careful. You might want to wait and ask help from the dog owner or you can get professional help. Remember, your safety is as important as the dog’s welfare.
